  • “giving where we live”
  • Summary: “Giving where we live” is the backbone of KW Southwest and evident in all the volunteer efforts in Fort Bent County for Red Week

Sugar Land, TX. -  Keller Williams Southwest agents and staff dedicate their time and efforts this year for an entire week in 2017, May 8 – 13, instead of just the annual Red Day volunteer events, which are slated for May 11, 2017.

In alignment with their commitment to the Fort Bend community and mission to “Give Where We Live,” KW Southwest will reach out on Red Day to help the Fort Bend Animal Control, Fort Bend Family Promise and the Parks Youth Ranch.

On Friday, May 12 the KW Southwest office will host a Blood Drive from 9:00 to 1:30 pm in the training room at 1650 Hwy 6 North, for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, “Commit for Life” program. For additional information on this event, contact Norman Lew.

To conclude the week, KW Southwest will host the third Shredding Hunger event from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13.

KW Southwest (KWSW) continues their mission of “giving where we live” by inviting the Fort Bend community to help “shred for a cause” and feed the hungry.

Local businesses and community members are welcome to bring up to two trash bags of papers that need to be shredded. In return, donations of canned goods or non-perishable food items are requested. All food collected during the event will be donated to the East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.

Red Day was introduced in 2009 and stands for Renew, Energize and Donate. Red Day was created as Keller Williams Realty's annual day of service. Each year on the second Thursday of May, associates celebrate Mo Anderson's birthday by spending the day away from their businesses serving worthy organizations and causes in their communities. RED Day is just another example of the commitment to each other and to the cities and towns where they live and work.

Keller Williams (KW) Southwest Cycling Team Joins Forces to Raise Funds for MS 150,

  • “Giving where we live.”
  • Summary: Captain Joe Rothchild, along with Co-Captain, Norman Lew, and the entire KW Cycling Team ready to take the road from Houston to Austin

Houston, TX - The Keller Williams (KW) Southwest Cycling Team is ready to hit the road for a cause, yet another example of the company’s mission to “Giving where we live.”

Heading the 19-member team are veteran riders, Captain Joe Rothchild and Co-Captain Norman Lew. Rothchild, organizer of the KW Southwest team, rides his 7th year for MS 150 team.  In addition to the KWSW agents and brokers, numerous other friends and family support the efforts by riding along with the group.

Rothchild has a passion for riding and physical health. He wanted a cycling team to support the National MS Society fundraising efforts and with the help of Norman Lew, Agent Services Director, they got the team “off the ground and running.” Each year with Rothchild’s support, a team of volunteers plan and work the details for a flawless and memorable ride for the cycling team.

Lew explained that not only are they raising funds for a worthy cause, they get the chance to do much more. “I just love riding. Finding new routes, new sights to see and new riders to meet and ride with. Getting lost along the way is part of the fun. Cyclists have a common goal—fitness and joy of the wind in our face,” he said. “Riding in the BP MS150 and raising money for the National MS Society helps them continue their research and get closer to a cure. It also helps so many riders keep in shape.”

The BP MS 150 is a two-day fundraising bike ride organized by the National MS Society. The ride is the largest event of its kind in North America with 13,000 cyclists, 3,500 volunteers and countless spectators along the route and at the finish line in Austin. The 2015 BP MS 150 had a record breaking year raising $20.3 million dollars, bringing hope to many who are living with multiple sclerosis.

Mark Naegli, BP MS150 Executive Director, expressed his appreciation for the dedication and perseverance of the KW Southwest Cycling Team and their multi-year participation. “We recognize the contribution of this great team and understand the commitment it takes to year after year to join us for this endeavor.”

HOUSTON SPEAKER DALLAS LOUIS SPEAKS ABOUT IMPACT OF DIVORCE ON CHILDREN

  • My position is about your behavior and choosing to be an adult.
  • Summary: Dallas Louis makes it her mission to educate people about the impact of divorce on children and families

Houston, TX – Having grown up in two homes after her parents divorced, Dallas Louis makes it her mission to educate people about the impact of divorce on children. Using the analogy of how broken crayons can still color, this Houston author, speaker and blogger, also mom and wife, helps children of divorce see the opportunity to live into their full adult potential.

During the Easter season, we often focus on beautiful colored eggs as a reminder of the new life that emerged from the tomb after the death of Christ. However, eggs can’t fulfill their purpose until they are cracked open. Whether their ultimate destination is to release a newborn chick or to become food, they don’t fulfill that function until they are cracked. Likewise, while we might enjoy the box full of new brightly colored crayons, crayons don’t fulfill their purpose of making art until they are used. In being used, they are often broken.

Using the analogy of broken crayons that still color, Louis shares her thoughts about helping children when their parents divorce. She talks about how children are often broken by divorce, but like broken crayons are sometimes melted together, children are sometimes merged into new combinations of families. The melted-together crayons offer new coloring option. So too the divorce and re-marriage of birth parents can form new combinations of families that can enrich a child’s life.

Divorce is one of life’s more painful experiences for everyone involved. In-laws struggle to know how or if to stay connected to former sons and daughters-in-law. Friends wonder if they should stay in touch with one or the other or neither of their divorced friends. But the real adjustment falls to the children who love both parents and have to shuffle back and forth between them. It is a time of many conflicting and complicated emotions and the situation really can’t be resolved easily. Louis knows this all to well, which is why she longs to engage others in conversations at retreats, church groups, spiritual gatherings or conferences.  “This is something I know. I can help them,” Louis said.

“In fact, both my husband and I are products of divorce.  Between the both of us, we have had NINE parental influences through the years.  That total includes each time a parent remarried and divorced.  That did not leave us in a love triangle, it left us in a tangled, shapeless mess.”

After she shared her perspective in a blog she discovered,  “The reader response was incredible to where they said ‘finally somebody is calling everybody out.’ My position is about your behavior and choosing to be an adult. My father used me deplorably against my mother. I don’t understand using children as pawns. It was all over the place when my parents divorced,” Louis said.

Relying on her faith, for both she and her husband, Jeff, is how they continue to grow as a family with their three children.

“God holds everything and is the center of all of it,” Louis said. “I’m fallen and sinful. My God is bigger than my sin and has my marriage in the palm of his hand. Your faith can get you through every day and even the worst days of your life.”
